So “can you see yourself living here?” the question that I asked prospective buyers as I was finishing the final touches – “yes” came the answer back…. Hopefully my job was complete.
The aim of dressing a show flat or house is to present a completed package to help launch and sell the property, to transform a shell into a stylist and comfortable interior that others can see themselves living in.
The objectives of the brief, meeting the key requirements of the client, understanding the target audience, the budget, knowledge of suppliers and what can be supplied in the timescale available are all considerations but inevitably it is that one key piece of artwork, sculpture or ornamental decorative piece that will initiate the design. A simple, fresh colour palette of green, yellow, grey giving a cool contemporary feel in the reception room. Darker, jewel tones married with gold and silver and grey make dramatic statements and give a feel of opulence in the bedroom. Appropriate window treatments , linens, throws and accessories will help the viewer to envisage the “life style” in this flat.
And, finally it is the cohesive flow between rooms, tasteful furniture and the introduction of those functional objects that will complete the “staging” and strike the correct balance so that this flat is appealing to public
